Sync your iPhoto library with Flickr

Unpaq is currently developing an application for MacOS X which will do exactly that. It should be ready for beta testing in a couple of weeks. If you would like to participate in the beta test, or if you would like to be notified when the application is ready, then please contact me. You can see the contact information here.

Here are a few more details about the application:

It is called FlickrFriend (at the moment)
It can upload all your missing uploads
It can create tags on your Flickr images so that they match your iPhoto keywords
It can create tags on your Flickr images so that they match your “faces
It can add your Flickr images to Flickr sets so that they match your iPhoto albums
It will also handle videos
It caches information from Flickr, so the first time it takes a while (depending on the amount of images you have), but after that it is much faster.

Some of the things that it doesn’t do (but it might do it later):
Delete stuff. Currently nothing gets deleted. Not photos, not tags, not albums.
Which implies that if you remove a keyword in iPhoto or take a photo out of an album, none of that will be reflected on Flickr.
Change the names of images
Change the description.

Current problems:
FlickrFriend uses the capture time of each image as a unique identifier. This usually works, but I have about 50 images in iPhoto with the capture date 1/1 1970.
This is typically images that I have received in an email. Since they all share the same capture time, only one of them is uploaded.

Is there a way to automate FrickrFriend so that it will open and start syncing, let’s say, every night at 12?

  • No, there is not. But I might add an option to automatically start sync when FlickrFriend is launched, and automatically quit FlickrFriend when sync is over. Then you just need some way of launching FlickrFriend at certain times. I think there are lots of ways of doing this.
But first I will have to add this new feature. I am not making any promises about when this will happen. :-)

Does the software automatically check for updates?
I would also love a way of automatically syncing! If you could add that it would be amazing.
    Thanks
    Andy

  • Hi Andy.

The software does not check for all kinds of updates. Basically it checks if the keywords and sets are in sync with Flickr, but if you edit the photo itself, this is not detected.
